Ottawa – Comedian Mark Critch of This Hour Has 22 Minutes fame found himself in hot water Friday after celebrating prime minister Stephen Harper’s retirement from politics by posting a photo of himself in “Stephen Harper’s closet” on Instagram.
Critch, often edgy, probably wasn’t prepared for what came next. Conservative MP Michelle Rempel’s wrath. The staunch Harper supporter responded to Critch’s Instagram post with an epic Twitter rant that will go down in history as one of the most scathing takedowns of a good Canadian comedian since Stephen Harper locked lips with the Princess Warrior. Mary Walsh is still suffering from that icy encounter.
Lampooning Harper for hiding in a closet during the 2014 terrorist attack on Parliament Hill isn’t new. Rick Mercer did it on the Rick Mercer Report. He got laughs.
Even the Crown Prince of CBC News, Peter Mansbridge questioned Harper on his closet hideout. He got nowhere.
Mark Critch did it on Instagram. He got Rempeld, and judging by his now removed Instagram post, castrated too.

Mark Critch’s Instagram post has since been removed. We’re assuming Critch used the broom he found hiding in Stephen Harper’s utility closet to sweep it under the rug.
