Cheerios will no longer carry “gluten free” labelling in Canada, the CBC reported Wednesday.

According to the report, General Mills Canada will voluntarily remove the labels from the cereal boxes sold in Canadian stores “as soon as possible.” Cheerios sold in Canada contain less than 20 parts per million of gluten – which meets Canada’s regulatory standard to carry gluten-free labelling.

“The change we are making is simply to remove the gluten-free label from future boxes. There is not any health risk with the products currently on the shelf,” the CBC quoted General Mills spokesperson Mike Siemienas as saying in an email to the broadcaster.
