Tom Young, probably best known for hosting Talk of the Town on CFBC in Saint John, N.B. for several decades, has died. He was 75.
Young, an Ontarian by birth, grew up in the Toronto area, where he dropped out of school after Grade 10 to join the Canadian Armed Forces. It was there where he caught the radio bug, kicking off his broadcasting career in military radio while stationed in West Germany.
He later went on to pursue a career in private radio where he became a household name in the Saint John N.B. area during his time hosting Talk of the Town. In 2005, Young was coaxed out of retirement by Rogers Radio to host “The Afternoon News,” broadcast at the time on News 88.9 Saint John, News 91.9 Moncton, and News 95.7 Halifax.

Former @NEWS957 host Tom Young passed away today at 75. It was an honour to produce his show, and try and replace him when he retired.

In 2011, along with his wife Diana, Young retired to St. John’s N.L. in order to be close to their four grandchildren.
Tom Young died Monday afternoon following complications after knee surgery.
Life in Politics
Young was also very active in local politics, serving as the mayor of Renforth, N.B. from 1989 to 1992 and later for serving several terms as a Rothesay town councillor in the Saint John area.
