Leaky brown coffee lids may soon be just a bad memory as Tim Hortons tests new environmentally-friendly lids designed with a cap to cut down on leaking.

The company’s president Alex Macedo told the Canadian Press that more “environmentally-friendly lids” emblazoned with a maple leaf have been “rigorously tested” by thousands of people at six undisclosed Tims locations.

“If we don’t make these adjustments, we will fall back in time,” Macedo was quoted as saying.

“The only people who are going to be pissed off are dry cleaners and car-washing companies. They will wash fewer shirts and fewer cars,” added Macedo.

The current lids have been in service without any design changes for the past 20 years.
