After operating in the Calgary-area for 14 years, the Bears Den restaurant is set to close its doors for the last time on January 28, 2018.
Owner and general manager Scott Winograd blames Alberta’s “poor business environment” and recent labour and tax policies enacted by the NDP provincial government for the restaurant’s demise.
The owner posted the following message on the restaurant’s website:
THE BEARS DEN WILL BE CLOSING ITS DOORS AT THE END OF JANUARY
Unfortunately, economic conditions in the industry including the continuing poor business environment along with recent changes in the minimum wage and statutory holiday pay requirement have resulted in conditions that are unsustainable for remaining open. The Bears Den family wishes all our guests the very best. If you have gift cards, we encourage you to pay us a final visit to use them up by January 28th.
