Two Arrested After Authorities Find Liquid Cocaine In Rum Bottles At Ottawa Airport

A pair of Ottawa residents are facing drug charges for allegedly attempting to smuggle liquid cocaine in rum bottles into Canada at the MacDonald-Cartier International Airport in Ottawa.

RCMP said the pair of travellers arrived on a flight from the Dominican Republic on December 7, and were referred for a secondary examination. During a secondary search of their belongings,  Canada Border Services Officers found 10 one-litre bottles of rum.

A test of the liquid in the bottles and a detector dog both showed positive indications for suspected cocaine.

The two, both from Ottawa, were arrested and turned over to the RCMP.

Mercedez Greig, 22, and Gersi Mulollari, 23, are charged with importation of cocaine and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Both suspects were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in court on January 2, 2018.
