Sydney, Nova Scotia, has been selected to host Canada’s top women curlers in the 2019 Scotties Tournament of Hearts Championship.

The announcement was made Friday at Sydney’s Centre 200, which will also serve as the venue for the tournament.

The event will mark the first time the Canadian Women’s Curling Championship has been played in the Cape Breton region of the province. Nova Scotia last hosted the Scotties in Halifax back in 1992.

The event, which will be held from February 16 to 24, 2019, features a 16-team field, including all 14 provincial/territorial champions of Curling Canada’s Member Associations, along with the defending champion Team Canada. The 16th entry will be decided in a wild-card play-in game on the Friday (February 15) before the opening of round-robin play.

Communities, Culture and Heritage Minister Leo Glavine announced a $150,000 investment today, to support Sydney during a joint event held by Curling Canada and the host committee at Centre 200.
