Shoppers Drug Mart hopes to be rolling out doobies from its pharmacies in the very near future after the chain confirmed it has applied to be a distributor of medical marijuana.
So they won’t exactly be rolling out doobies, and they won’t be growing pot, but they’ll be dispensing medical marijuana if Health Canada grants approval. Well, not quite. Confused yet?
Here’s the deal, even if Shoppers’ application is granted, the current law prohibits them from dispensing pot via their pharmacies. Under the current law, medical marijuana patients are only permitted to buy directly from licensed producers, who deliver the product through the mail.
What it all boils down to is the feds would have to change the law.
On the bright side, Shoppers Drug Mart is owned by Canada’s mega-grocer Loblaws. If you got the munchies…
