If you’re young and cynical about politics, there’s hope. A 19-year-old university student in Ontario just knocked off a Conservative Goliath to take the party nomination for the upcoming byelection in Niagara West-Glanbrook.

Sam Oosterhoff pulled off the win Saturday night, bumping off the president of the Progressive Conservatives and former MP Rick Dykstra to take the prize.

The riding was represented by former party leader Tim Hudak until he resigned the seat last month.

The byelection will be held on November 17.
