Big Brother Canada fans have spoken and Global TV says the popular reality series will be returning for a sixth season in 2018.
The fate of the series was left in doubt after host Arisa Cox took to Twitter in June to announce the Canadian version of the franchise was going on hiatus and would not return for a sixth season.
Fans of the show immediately responded with an online petition and social media campaign urging Global to reconsider its decision to cancel the show.
On Thursday, Global announced that due to “overwhelmingly powerful fan response to its hiatus,” Big Brother Canada will return for a sixth season in 2018.
“With the utmost respect for the loyal following this series has engendered over five terrific seasons, we heard the fans loud and clear. We recognized their passion for this high quality, dynamic, and engaging series, and are thrilled to have Big Brother Canada on the Global schedule next year,” said Barbara Williams, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Corus Entertainment.
Arisa Cox broke the news to fans in an exclusive on-air and online video late Thursday night.
