The Royal Canadian Mint wants to make your pockets glow with pure Canadian pride as it unveils a new glow-in-the-dark toonie to celebrate Canada 150.

The Mint says the limited-edition toonie is the world’s first coloured bimetallic coin and the first circulation coin to feature glow-in-the-dark technology.

The coin is part of a series of special Canada 150 circulation coins selected from thousands of designs submitted by Canadians who took part in a national contest last year.

Named “Dance of the Spirits,” the toonie features the Northern Lights, as designed by Timothy Hsia, of Richmond, British Columbia.

In addition to the glow-in-the-dark toonie, the collection also includes a limited number of coloured 25-cent coins. The quarter, named “Hope for a Green Future,” was designed by Joelle Wong of Richmond Hill, Ontario.
