A Canadian man is dead and his wife is grieving alone in Mexico after her husband drowned in a tragic accident while swimming together on Wednesday.

CTV reports  Zoltan Zadori and Cindy McPherson were in the water together when they were swept out to sea off the coast of Cancun.

“The waves were really strong and they kept going over our heads and pulling us out further,” CTV quoted McPherson as saying.

When the couple realized they were in trouble, they signalled for help from two on duty lifeguards.

Lifeguards were able to pull the couple to shore, but were unable to resuscitate Zadori. He was pronounced dead shortly after, CTV reported.

The Ontario couple was staying at the Grand Oasis Sens resort in Cancun.

Zadori, a truck driver and father, has two children from a previous marriage.
